Born St Helens , Lancashire. Living at Pembroke Place, Liverpool at time of marriage in 1853. The 1861 Census (RG9/2754 42 p24) shows William to be at Peckers Hill, Sutton, working as a glass polisher, married with 3 young children. Living in house was Mary Ann Dyson, a servant, age 17 born Liverpool. Possibly wifes sister.

1871 Census (RG10/3867 folio 77 pg 15). Living at 68 Peckers Hill Lane, Sutton, working as a copperas roaster (iron or copper sulphate). Used as a glass polish? Married with 6 children.

1881 Census (RG11/3739 folio 123 pg 22). Living at 49 Ditch Hillock, Sutton, St Helens. Working as a rouge burner (for glass polishing). Age 51 married 4 youngest children at home.

Not alive 1891 Census (RG12/3026 folio 28 pg 53)

Probably worked either at the St Helens, Crown, Sheet & Plate Glass Company or at the London & Manchester Glass Company. Both had works in Sutton as shown in Slaters Directory 1855

Cause of death - inflamation of stomach eclampsia. WT Prescott son present at death

An etched glass jug held by CMP made by WP spells name Prescot. RTC has other glass objects.

Lived at Pembroke Place, Liverpool at time of marriage in 1853. Lived at 68 Peckers Hill Lane, Sutton before 1861 to before 1881. Then at 49 Ditch Hillock , Sutton

1901 Census living with son and daughter Maria at Mosbro Road Star Cottage, Rainford

Possible younger sister Mary Ann Dyson who worked as a servant and living with Ellen at Peckers Hill Lane (1861) then aged 17 and born Liverpool (same as Ellen)

6 children known. Widowed in 1890

Cause of death, breast cancer. Son-in-law Geo. Royden of 21 Ormonde Street, in attendance

Travelled to Blackburn. Reasons unknown but probably for work. Living at 20 Audley Range Blackburn before marriage in 1893 (not here in 1891! (Census ref RG12/3405 146-149) but there are boarders) then to 119 King Street Blackburn. Living at 73 Havelock Street, Blackburn November 1911. Lived at 21 Stansfeld Street, Blackburn for rest of life.

Confusion over spelling of names, Ellen on b cert and Helen on marr cert

Widowed during Great War. Brought up teenage daughter alone.

Cause of death diabetes mellitus. Died at 129 Haslingden Road. Who's house is this?
